Default ABA Update (and Now The PBL AND NBL Canada)

Just want to let you mates know a couple of things involving the ABA right off the bat to start this topic:

The Rochester RazorSharks won the 2005-2006 ABA title over the Southern California Legends 117-114 at Rochester's Blue Cross Arena.

St. Louis' own and former Sydney King and Duke star Chris Carrawell of the RazorSharks was named ABA Player of the Year.

More ABA expansion is coming. Plus, I'll delve more into Alexander Wolff's Vermont Frost Heaves.

A June 2006 SLAM magazine article on the ABA is slated to hit newsstands (newsagents to you) very soon. I'll discuss my thoughts shortly after I get it. SLAM has a monthly ABA blurb not unlike SI's wildly popular This Week's Sign of the Apocolypse.

Rochester RazorSharks sign player - Dec 30, 2011 (by Eurobasket News)

The Rochester RazorSharks have signed 6-foot-8 forward Aaron Williams (6'8''-C/F-83, agency: Dream Team Management, college: W.Chester) for the 2012 season. Williams played for the RazorSharks in the 2009 season, averaging more than 11 points per game.

Don't forget: Premier Basketball League 2011-12 season starts tomorrow in Rochester on New Year's Eve when the RazorSharks face the Steamers.

I'll return to the brand new NBL Canada more in depth next week. But I would like to bring aboard some new developments regarding it. Right now, London and Quebec City are tops in the seven-team league standings with those two seemingly locks for the first two seeds of the 2012 NBL Canada Playoffs with the Halifax Rainmen not that far behind from them at third. The Saint John Mill Rats is rapidly catching up. Forget about the Moncton Miracles going to the playoffs, currently, and will likely finish, last at 2-14.

Halifax Rainmen headman and league president Andre Levingston says the NBL Canada's talent level is comparable to what we may see in the NBDL. That may very well be true with the nice offense and defense from the players, and Levingston, Bernier, and McCarthy constantly saying with this league wishing, having learned from their observations and learning the histories of leagues' player talent levels, to possess high and developed talent, many of them playing in various leagues worldwide, in their new league's stable to impress the Canadian basketball public. This is also true of the coaches in the league, almost all of whom have previous head coaching experience in the minor leagues or in foriegn ones like Michael Ray Richardson, Jaren Jackson, Rob Spon, Joe Salerno, and Pep Claros. They even get better corporate support than the NBDL. Let's all hope for a long existence for NBL Canada.

London Lightning nabs former Maryland Terrapin (and Towson St. Tiger) Braxton Dupree. He'll play on New Year's Day against Moncton.

6-13 Oshawa has former Duke Blue Devil Robert Brickey becoming their interim head coach for the remainer of the season. Brickey played at Duke from 1986-90 under Coach K, making it to the 1989 and 1990 Final Fours. His previous coaching endeavor was at North Carolina St. The following is a throwback video from his Duke playing days.

The required Canadian contingent in NBL Canada--like Summerside's Chris Cayole, Halifax's Joey Haywood, Oshawa's Tut Rauch, and Saint John's Kevin Francis--is actually good themselves with their notable handful.

The only game so far in the very young 2011-12 PBL season is already in the books after it took off in Rochester, New York on New Year's Eve night, defending champions Rochester RazorSharks, who won it under controversial circumstances, defeated the new Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Steamers 107-98

No surprise here if you ever followed Halifax's longstanding, decades-long affectionate relationship with basketball, NBL Canada commissioner John Kennedy announces that the Halifax Rainmen will host the first NBL Canada All-Star Weekend in March presented by Rogers Communications.

The Rainmen are moving up further in the NBL Canada standings with only the London Lightning in front of them while the Rainmen face the Saint John Mill Rats in another chapter of the Battle of the Bay of Fundy.

More NBL Canada stuff will arrive next week.
