Thread: Sydney Kings 2012/2013 General Discussion

Matt's article sums it up pretty well... I thought the Kings started off well and for most of the 1st half I think we saw more what they will be playing like, starting Henry, Madge, Harvey, Lazare and Crosswhite and while they still didn't look inside much, they were working much harder to get their outside shooters open, which really didn't happen last two seasons, but considering the coach, isn't surprising. Harvs was really active on both ends, getting a steal (nearly two) and showing he still has his eye in on the offensive end. Madge's shot looked real good too, which was great to see... Lazare started off slow with a few fumbles, but as reports say, he came good. Still looked a bit clunky, and his shots often didn't look good until they went in, but had some really nice drives, so hopefully he will be a keeper...

I was most looking forward to seeing Henry and while he didn't disappoint, he didn't really impress either... Quick hands, and eager on D, but has a tendency to let players get in front of him to try to pick their back pocket... He'll learn that he can't get away with that as easily as OS soon (I hope). Also had his shot blocked a couple of times, once by Rhys Martin, so hopefully he improves as the pre-season goes on...

Was a shame we didn't see more of the new recruits as we had some very weird combos out there at times, but while I'd love to push the 3rd quarter fails onto SoJ, but with Harvs getting rested and Crossy playing very limited minutes, and with the pinpoint shooting from outside, even though they were still looking like they were running at 3/4 speed, the experience of the Hawks always seemed to come good at the right time...

What seemed really strange was how they departed from what was working for them in the 1st half, as Madge ended up with 13, but he already had 11 at halftime, and Bruce's final seconds 3 was his only outside attempt, after opening passing up very open shots...

I hope we can see a bit more Lazare/Crosswhite combo as time goes on as they had flashes of really working nicely together...

Sidenote #1: I like this livestream thing, it saves the games, so hopefully we can see something similar for video streams from other teams (seeing as how hopefully I'll be at all Kings home games)

Sidenote #2: Has there been any word on team captain yet? Harvs was taking an active leadership role in the warm ups pre-game, who else would be an option?

SOJ does not show on the kings roster on their web site.

In the 3rd quarter SOJ in offence looked lost. The offence had no cohesion. The game was lost by letting the hawks back in and giving them a sniff.

Kings were energetic in D, moved the ball in Offense, but didnt take/make perimeter shots.

Also missed a few put backs and easy under basket shots.

Because he's not signed by them... just being used as training fodder I imagine...

I think you'll find that the co-captains are Harvey & Madgen.

A bit lost, to be honest... Didn't get a whole lot of playing time, but I think I saw Shane explaining to him how to better challenge for a rebound on a missed FT attempt, at one stage...

I just received a generic email from The Kings, and I'm starting to wonder if We'reBackBaby is actually working there somewhere. They seem to have quite the similar command of the language. As a teacher, I'm actually embarrassed for them.

At least they are consistent. Their poor performance on court has only been surpassed by their poor written communication.

But, but, NSW is the media hub of Australia's marketing communications.
Are you telling us that they've been out-sourcing?

Suprised we didnt get the win but its only pre season so it dont matter. I still got faith in the hammer, i say he wouldve just been playing the bench before the season when the starters will get all the time.

We are in a good spot if we have a good player like joyce jnr on the end of the bench this season.

Anyone got a box score yet?

Heh... re-reading that last bit reminded me of one of my favourite calls of the game... Madge bringing the ball up the sideline, gets a bit of a hustle-shove from Sav, nothing over the top or anything, but it causes him to go out of bounds... Refs just call the out of bounds and everyone is like "yeah, but did you see what CAUSED him to do it?" lol...

Shoot. That is a horrendous case of non-proof-reading! I totally didn't get what you meant until I re-read it. That's what happens when you write too late at night...

I was under the impression it was 10,000, but my only familiarity with that song is from Ed Byrne's routine on it.
