Three point shooting in the 4th bailed them out, otherwise a pretty sloppy performance.

    Default Boomers defeat France

Boomers with a great win over France in France!

Game recap now up on PnR thanks to Craig Rayner who got up early to catch all the action:

Boomers edge past France to go 3-0 in Nice

The Boomers have enjoyed their most impressive victory so far as they prepare for the 2014 FIBA World Cup, overcoming France 76-74 to sweep their 3-match tournament in Nice. The Boomers were once again led by Aron Baynes on both ends of the court, falling just short of his third double-double in a row by compiling 21 points and 9 rebounds.

Just looking through the Boomers bracket, if they finish second in their group they will likely play against New Zealand, Ukraine, Finland or the Dominican Republic in the Round of 16 and then the US in the quarter finals.

On the other hand if they finish third, it will likely be Turkey in the Round of 16 and Lithuania in the quarters.

I feel like they could beat Turkey and Lithuania, but it's pretty much impossible for them to beat the US. Do you think that they would tank to get third if their last game decided whether they finished second or third (assuming first is out of their question by that stage)?

What's the schedule look like if we finish first?

I think you would still prefer to win that group game to build confidence

In the round of 16 they would play against the fourth placed team of group C, so New Zealand, Finland, Ukraine or the Dominican Republic. In the quarters it would probably be Slovenia. Obviously this would be the ideal situation.

Also, how lopsided is the draw this year. USA, Lithuania, Slovenia and Turkey on one side... Spain, France, Brazil, Serbia, Argentina, Greece and Croatia on the other.

I tell you what, Baynes has improved by leaps and bounds since his time in San Antonio. His unorthodox hookshot is surprisingly accurate, and the amount of muscle he has put on without losing athleticism is impressive. Looks a lock to be on an NBA roster based on his pre-World Cup performances.

Given he as a qualifying offer from the Spurs, you'd have to say he's been a lock since June 30.

Ahh I missed that. That's good news for the Spurs if he keeps it up.

    Default Group D Update

#TeamPnR's Craig Rayner provides another update on all the teams Australia takes on in Group D at the FIBA World Cup.

    http://pickandroll.com.au/2014-fiba-...-preparations/

Lithuania have not only placed their 2014 FIBA World Cup Group D opponents on notice that they mean business, but indeed all nations competing in Spain as a result of not yet dropping a single match in their preparations. The European powerhouse has managed to win their first nine contests with their rotations starting to take shape, spearheaded by the return to action of center Jonas Valanciunus.

    Default Boomers crush Finland

The Boomers crushed Finland 80-57 in France earlier this morning.

    Recap now up on PnR:

    http://pickandroll.com.au/finland-cr...rs-strasbourg/

Unlike the previous exhibition against Finland in Helsinki where they fell short after forcing overtime, the Boomers were able to open up an early first quarter lead and where never headed. Leading by just 2 points at quarter time, Australia then lifted a gear and powered away to never again be threatened in what turned out to be a blowout.

RedbackVenom your website is great, really appreciated.

Gee the Tall Blacks gave Lithuania a real shake and led most of the match before being overtaken in the last few minutes. The highlights of the game on PnR are mainly Lithuania though so must have come from Lithuania TV? TBs looking good. Hope the Boomers don't end up playing them somewhere in the crossovers and lose - that would be tough!

Really looking forward to the next few weeks. Love international ball at any level but the Worlds are the best. I fear that Lithuania will remain our bogey team, but we gotta beat them at some point!

Sabonis, Marciulionis, Kurtinaitis, Karnishuvas, Songailia, etc are long gone now. So these days Lithuania, a fervent basketball nation as there is in Europe, is beatable these days. Makes you wonder though, had Luc Longley not got injured before Atlanta, the Boomers might got bronze for his size and bulk can rival that of Sabonis.

No use. Everyone would be playing for the third spot at that stage. The games would be ugly to watch, kind of match fixing really. I say go for the win. If we finish second, be it. No one should come to a tournament aiming for second anyway (except Spain). It's an opportunity for us to show the world what true sportsmanship really means.

    Default France beat Boomers

Not a good way to finish your preparations, but better a bad performance now that in a week's time!

    Recap now up on PnR:

    http://pickandroll.com.au/france-smo...ead-world-cup/

The Australian Boomers have gone down to France 73-50 in Strasbourg in their last hit-out before their 2014 FIBA World Cup campaign begins later this week in Spain. For the first time on their European tour, the Boomers struggled offensively through an entire match, shooting just 30% from the field. However Aron Baynes continued to be a pillar of consistency in delivering 17 points and 11 rebounds.

By contrast, the mighty Tall Blacks have soundly beaten the Serbs in Serbia with some punishing shooting displays from their wingers.

Compared to his NBL game, Vukona is a different player with his Tall Blacks jersey on. So much more passive offensively in the NBL setting.

Default Australia's Group D Wrap Up

#TeamPnR's Craig Rayner takes a final look at Australia and their Group D opponents ahead of the 2014 FIBA World Cup that gets underway this weekend.

    http://pickandroll.com.au/group-d-pr...urns-to-spain/

The teams that will compete in Group D of the 2014 FIBA World Cup have wrapped up their preparation matches and now converge in Gran Canaria, Spain to start what they hope will result in the eventual holding aloft of the Naismith Trophy on September 14 in Madrid.

Default Can the Boomers win a medal?

So how do we think the Boomers preparation leading into the FIBA World Cup for men went?

Who performed and is under performing?

Can the Boomers win a medal?

    Who will win it all?

#TeamPnR took a look at this questions to help get things started:

We won't win a medal mate. There are too many strong teams in the World Cup. We'd be lucky to make the last 8.

Who will win it all? Who else but the mighty Americans mate. The Spaniards would finish 2nd as planned. I pick Lithuania & Greece as the beaten semifinalists.
