Default Boomers 2014 World Champs Team

    Who stays and who goes?

I think Maric, Crawford and Nielsen should definitely go, with Bogut and possibly Jawai coming into the team. What do you guys think?
James Layup Shot: Missed Block: Bogut (2 BLK)

Hopefully Anderson will be to old to be there anymore, it's time for him to go

I thought that overall Andersen was our best big. It's a nice thought that by 2014 we've got other guys available and improved such that he no longer makes the team on playing ability, but I'd certainly like to have him available as an option.

Agree with your outs. Exum in for PC?
Then we just need to unearth a reliable perimeter shooter.

Didn't think there was much wrong with what Andersen gave us.

Maric on the other hand, was a shadow of what he showed in the warm up games IMO. Hopefully Bogut will be back and with another couple of years of development, AJ Ogilvy can back him up.

Really liked Delly as starting PG and would like to persist with that set-up of Mills at the 2. Mills looks better hitting the corner 3 and running off screens - hard to do that with the ball in your hand all the time. Delly runs the pick and roll better too - loved his work with Baynes.

Will Wortho be too old by the next World Champs? Certainly will be by the next Olympics. Would love to see someone like Wagstaff step up and take his hustling 4/3 spot. Needs to improve his perimeter D and agility to be able to pinch hit at the 3 though.

OUT: Maric, Nielsen, Barlow, Wortho, PC.
IN: Bogut, Ogilvy, Wagstaff, [Dynamic wing], [3 point shooter]

Don't know who those last two players are yet.

Depending on how youthful we want to go:

    Mills/Greenwood/Cadee
    Dellavedova/Drmic
    Ingles/Newley
    Anderson/Motum
    Bogut/Baynes/Ogilvy

    So:

    Bogut for Maric
    Ogilvy for Nielsen
    Motum for Worthington
    Drmic for Barlow
    Greenwood for Crawford
    Cadee for Gibson

    Outs for me would be;

    Definitely out

    Maric
    Nielsen
    Crawford
    Gibson

    Possibly out

    Worthington
    Barlow

The core group of this Boomers team was Mills, Ingles, Andersen, Dellavedova, Newley and Baynes. They all should definitely go on to the World Champs. Andersen is the oldest of the group, and will be 34 in 2014, but I think he will still provide valuable offence as a stretch four, especially if he can play next to Bogut.

The obvious in is Bogut. Nothing else needs to be said.

    For the others we need to look at the players that missed this time around;

    Jawai, Martin, Broekoff, Wagstaff, Khazzouh, Bose, Ogilvy - plus the best of our juniors from the past few years;

Motum, Cadee, Greenwood, Drmic, Creek, Exum, Simmons, Duncan.

And then theres our Sudanese connection to keep an eye on with Majok and Maker.

All in all, I think the future is very bright, and we may just find that the 2013-2016 four year window is our most successful ever, especially with the recent powerhouse nations Spain, Argentina and Lithuania seemingly coming to the end of their best generations.

It's really hard to say at this early point, but here is a speculator anyway:

    Bogut / Jawai / Nevill

    Knight / Motum

    Ingles / Broekhoff

    Mills / Newley/ Lisch

    Dellavedova / Martin

You're leaving Baynes out? I would have him in the top 6 best performed from this tournament and he's only going to get better

Yeah, it's tough on him, but if we have a fully fit Bogut and Jawai there isnt a role for him. If either of those isnt ready to go he'd be my replacement.

If Lisch maintains or exceed his current form over the next two years and complete naturalisation his inclusion should be a no-brainer IMO. The only question mark on him is his height, presuming he plays the two guard spot.

Why? How tall do you have to be to ride the pine while former Melbourne-based players get unworthy court time?

Worthington and Nielsen wont be around in 4 years time so get some young blood in to get them ready for it.Ben Simmons,Dante Exum,Anothey Drmic and Brock motum will be pushing for spots in 2-4 years,Barlow,pc and gibbo can all get pushed out we wont miss much.

Yes please, I think Lisch could be a good fit for the Boomers. I'm also wondering about Redhage, he played quite well that one time he was in the sqad but hasn't had a look in since

    Early days I'd go:

    Bogut Ogilvy Jawai
    Baynes Motum
    Ingles Barlow
    Mills Newley Drmic
    Dellavedova Lisch

Next in line: Broekhoff, Creek, Martin, Gibson, Maric, Wortho, Andersen if fit/able, Wagstaff, Knight, Nevill, Majok if he develops/matures, Khazzouh, Bose.

    No.
Every time I see his name mentioned I pretty much just zone out. In my mind he is a lost cause until proven otherwise, and I have zero faith that he has the level of commitment necessary to be anything significant.

I generally agree thus why I put the if in there.

Just threw him in there based on potential, he'd be a huge outsider.

What does Nevill provide? Is he not also similar to Baynes?

Brad Newley still can't shoot, he'll only be effective attacking the hoop while he can still jump. In four years, I really do hope that Newley isn't one of our best options at shooting guard.
