Saying the Lakers don't rely on the draft is still pre new CBA thinking. Everyone will need the draft now, unless you can do a superfriends free agent deal.
i hear ya re: the $$ and being shit again for the next draft, but i don't think 6th or better necessarily equates to a player as good as him. we'll know more following the lottery, obvs, but i reckon outside of 2003, most drafts since 2000 probably averaged between 1-2 all-stars in the top 2. if you can score love (a sure thing and top 10 in the league), it's worth considering. the draft is still important, but they're the lakers. teams like them will always have a significant advantage, unless they're completely mismanaged (like the knicks)

i heard the eye on basketball thing too. if the lakers nab durant and love in one swoop that would be the worst.

i dunno, i see minny pushing pretty hard for a trade so they get something back, ala utah and denver with dwill and melo. a big part of that will be love indicating he's into the trade partner. of course that didn't work out so good for the lakers with dwight (lol).

Are you serious? There's so much discussion going on in here these days. This is the most ridiculous bit of "modding" I've ever seen....unless you're joking??

Agreed, if you think the conversation doesn't belong in a thread called "Dante Exum", then either rename the thread or move the active non-Dante conversation to a new thread, rather than pointlessly killing it altogether.

In the last 10 years its about 2 all stars in the top 5. In a strong draft it can be 3 or 4. The important thing about the top 5 is that it is also littered with All NBA players and MVPs.

If Love really wants to play for the Lakers, you tell him straight. We're keeping our top 6 rookie, and we'll pick you up next year. I'd take a 2 in 5 shot at four years of a potential All NBA player over one year of Kevin Love, with no guarantee he stays. Imagine if you gave up your rookie and he does exactly the same thing that Howard did?

It's still really a conversation about Exum. The question is, if the Lakers take Exum at 6, would you trade him for one year of Kevin Love.

I'd roll the dice on Exum every time.

I didn't think it was a big deal, just that I thought there was already specific NBA related threads already... It had turned away from Exum related talk so why not just start a new thread for draft stuff and leave this for the more specific Exum talk (combine, work outs, interviews, possible teams, etc) which I thought was it's initial intent?

I would have thought me snipping and moving stuff around would have been seen as a more aggressive move when I had hoped to just keep things tidy, as, since there isn't much going on, things tend to all get a bit muddled from initial topics?

As a moderator, why not indeed?

More aggressive than telling people to stop having one of the few active conversations on here?

poor dante. kid is copping a lot of flack in the last week, though who knows how much impact that will have in the end. i doubt he'd fall past utah. they're apparently very high on him.

Yeah, I saw this no interview to the press under advisement from his agent thing, sort of makes him look a bit suss... I wonder how much playing the game will hurt his chances... The criticisms of his game are probably justified, although there's no doubting his ability, and he's got a top quality agent, so I guess he knows what he's doing... Trying out for the top teams, so it's not like the media are going to be in a position to draft him...

A shame though, as I thought his good nature and good media skills was always a positive...

Orlando or Utah? Those seem to be the two most likely places for Dante. He surely won't leapfrog over Embiid, Parker, and Wiggins by now on the draft board.

Still a young Australian man of mystery--and he likes it that way. Funny to think about his own "MJ cut from the basketball team" moment. I thought Cecil married an Australian during his playing days with the likes of Geelong, North Melbourne, and Melbourne. Not a fellow North Carolina native:

That article also mentions Dante's new Foot Locker Adidas commercial series now that he's signed to the German sportswear giant, each of them with him dealing with pre-draft fame (or lack of it):

I like the autograph one with his sheepish reaction. The annoying neighbo(u)r reminds me of a lot of Americans who aren't as understandably knowledgeable on the cultural subtleties like with terminology between Americans and Australians. Case in point, what we call sneakers (runners in Australia, trainers in the UK).

    Yeah, Dante is good looking.
