In the battle of the superstar centres, it was ultimately Suzy Batkovic’s Townsville Fire that won out. Townsville won game 3 of the grand final series 70-57 on Sunday, securing their third championship in the last four WNBL seasons.
With all the winners now named, here’s a summary of the WNBL’s honour roll for 2017/18.
Grand Final game 1 was just like the regular-season meetings between the Boomers and Fire: it was scrappy, it was close, and Townsville won. But don’t count out the Boomers just yet.
The semi-finals leave us with Townsville and Melbourne battling it out for the WNBL championship; Townsville are looking for their third title in four seasons, whilst Melbourne is looking to hoist the trophy for the first time since the 2010/2011 season, back when they were still Bulleen.
