Default 2016 Dooley's Ultimate Basketball League (UBL)

Fourth week of this year's season coming up and there have been some significant signings, along with plenty of high-scoring individual players and games.
Three prominent new faces this season so far include Paul Brotherson (Cobras), Anto Lalic (Wildcats) and Steve Markovic (Western Sydney Vikings), with a few more expected to surface.

Game of the week this Saturday should be the Western Sydney Vikings and the Parramatta Wildcats.
Markovic played for the Vikings last week and will hopefully play as many games as possible before heading off to NBL / Overseas commitments.
Lalic made a comeback to Basketball two weeks back for the Wildcats and looks like he never left the game four or more years ago, dropping 38 points in each of his first two games.
10 Sep 16 13:00 WESTERN SYDNEY VIKINGS VS PARRAMATTA WILDCATS.

Second game of the day features the high-scoring Sydney Warriors and Glebe Magic.
Warriors have had some big scorers already this season, whilst the Magic are always competitive and have only lost one game this season - to the reigning premiers, the Sydney City Cobras.

    Default Round Four

Round four of the 2016 Dooley's Ultimate Basketball League (UBL) competition saw the return of Bankstown centre Alex Opacic, who paired with Steve Markovic to lead the Western Sydney Vikings to a narrow 96-90 win over a depleted Parramatta Wildcats.

In the second game of the day, Tony Tolovae played just 29 minutes for the Sydney Warriors but threw down enough dunks to fill a highlight reel in his team's 106-87 win over a depleted Glebe Magic.

The secret to success in this year's competition will be to turn up at or close to full strength every week, as the talent level is rising and there don't appear to be too many easy games on the draw.

Default Round Five - Vikings Slaughter the Warriors

Western Sydney Vikings underlined their intent to take out this year's premiership title and the huge prize-money on offer, crushing the Sydney Warriors 132-80.
The Warriors didn't do themselves any favours, turning up short-handed.
Everyone on the Vikings roster hit double figures, whilst Adrian Cabrera had a huge 50 points for the Warriors.
Vikings still strengthening their roster, which is a danger signal to the Sydney City Cobras in particular, who are attempting to win their third consecutive UBL title.

The Cobras also had a huge win, overcoming one of the minnows of the competition (SBI) 117-67.

The best match-up of the season is looming on 15th October, when the Vikings and Cobras meet for the first time.
Hopefully, both teams will be at full strength and the fans pack out the Auburn Basketball Centre for what should be a point-scoring onslaught - from both teams.

Plenty of high-scoring action to highlight Round 15, with three triple-doubles, two games with a total exceeding 200 points and a strong move by Glebe Magic to secure fourth spot on the ladder.
Every team has had weeks where players have not been available but will the Parramatta Wildcats look back at Round 15 in particular, should they miss the playoffs.
The Wildcats big loss to the Magic not only allowed the Magic to slip two wins clear (one with the bye still in hand) but also dropped them back to a share of fifth spot with the St George Dragons.
The Western Sydney Vikings look to have now taken a stranglehold on the minor premiership but given the strength of the final top four, they are not yet a 'lock' for the premiership title.
There are two rounds remaining before the Christmas break.

The playoff qualifiers have all been determined following the completion of Round 17, with the Sydney Cobras, Western Sydney Vikings, Glebe Magic and Sydney Warriors all finishing in the Top Four (provided the Warriors do not forfeit in Round 1.

The Cobras and Vikings meet in the final round on 21st January and the Vikings can regain the lead (and the minor premiership) but must beat the Cobras by more than 48 points.

The Norwest Giants and Central Bulls are locked together at the bottom of the ladder and also meet in Round 18, with the winner jumping out of the cellar and the loser winning the dreaded wooden spoon.

The biggest drama of Round 17 came in the Cobras vs Dragons game, when Paul Brotherson severely dislocated his elbow attempting a slam dunk. Brotherson had his elbow put back in place and tendons repaired on Sunday but will be out of action for the next three months.

    Default Round 18 Preview

This Saturday is the final round of the regular season in the 2016/17 Dooley's Ultimate Basketball League (UBL) competition.
Although all playoff berths have been decided, there is still an opportunity for some teams to either climb or descend the competition ladder following Saturday's games.
The action starts with the battle for the Wooden Spoon, with the Giants and Bulls locked together on 15 points and the loser of their clash to claim the season's unwanted prize.
The second game of the day is the enthralling clash between first-placed Cobras and second-placed Vikings.
Both teams will be without key players in the playoffs, with Paul Brotherson (Cobras) injured and Vlad Jankovic (Vikings) overseas.
The Vikings can knock the Cobras out of top spot on Saturday but need to win by at least 49 points.
The Parramatta Wildcats and St George Dragons are up next at 4.30pm and these two teams have been hampered all season by absenteeism.
The Wildcats should have enough firepower to win this one but will rue their sub-par season when they are watching the playoffs from the sidelines.
The final game of the day (also at 4.30pm) will feature the Sydney Warriors against the Sydney Basketball Institute (SBI).
A win in this game will elevate the Warriors to third spot on the ladder, ahead of Glebe Magic (who have a bye this weekend).

    Default Round 18 Results

The final round of the regular season went as predicted, with the Cobras rolling the Vikings to claim the minor premiership, the Warriors rolling SBI to move into third and the Giants rolling the Bulls to narrowly escape the wooden spoon - and gift it to the Bulls.

Two injury scares in the main game, with Sam McCorkindale (Cobras) sustaining a knock to his knee in the second quarter and Alex Opacic (Vikings) getting accidentally poked in the eye in the third quarter.
McCorkindale came back in the second half but Opacic was disqualified from the game a short while after his injury with a Technical Foul, followed by a Disqualifying Foul.

The Wildcats late spiral down the competition ladder took a final hit on Saturday, with their 105-92 loss to the Dragons dropping them to sixth spot on the ladder, behind the Dragons on percentages.
